Winter King, Hawthorn (Crataegus viridis)

Earth to Sky Trees llc. planting a Winter King, Hawthorn (Crataegus viridis).  The distinctly has smooth light grey colored bark, a wide canopy as tall as the mature height and bright colored fruits.  This tree species was selected specifically for it’s maroon fruits bearing into late February. These berries provide food for wildlife such as deer, turkeys, song birds and more.  The planting occurred during the second week of March 2019.   Arborist have been educated with knowledge of specific planting methods that will create a foundation for the tree to reach maturity through.  Arborist’s bring awareness for considerations of correct species selection for planting locations to prevent potential problems for the tree.  When planting a tree usually the intent of it reaching full maturity is present, with a lack of experience this can be futile with foundational decisions and planting being conducted wrong. 

Some considerations when deciding to plant a tree:

  • The right tree species for the location a tree is desired to be.
  • The right species for the desired purpose of a tree in that location.  Flowers, shade, fruit, windscreen, habitat?
  • Overhead power lines within mature height.
